Drinx at the Phoenix Wednesday night (21st) 5:30 onward. All members and partners welcome Warren and Pat will be there from the kickoff at 5:30 to greet anyone too shy to drink alone.
Guest Speaker Paora Stanley eventually grabbed the floor after Les supplied a comprehensive and detailed introduction. Paora is CEO Ngāti Te Rangi Settlement Trust, epicentre - northern approach to the Harbour Bridge. Paora delighted in being in a room with people who care about their community – he definitely wants a Rattrap, but didn’t seem so keen on a plastic duck. In July 2016 he returned home after a sojourn in charge of an Indian Reservation in Canada, and was on the job within 4 hours of arrival. His first priority is to look after the people and ran through a range of strategies to do so: swimming lessons, kaimoana gathering techniques, tidal windows, medicinal marijuana, tyre changing and H2O without the H+
He finished by encouraging us to enjoy being domiciled at the epicentre of the most beautiful parts or the Aotearoa.
Sgt Session – Wendy won the Raffle with No 14 - Green and was accompanied on her rounds by a plethora of factoids about good olde NZ. The highest number of golfing sheep (40M), 100kg butter, 65 kg of cheese per person and more people in the room being alive than dead.
Longest Name: llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (Chris Rapson could actually say this). It was enough to bring a crinkle to your hairpin.
Parting Thought: Warwick de Vere
“Well if I saw it, so you can see it” – Solastalgia ( /sɒləˈstældʒə/) is a neologism that describes a form of psychic or existential distress caused by environmental change. In many cases this is in reference to global climate change, but more localized events such as volcanic eruptions, drought or destructive mining techniques can cause solastalgia as well.
Many thanks Warwick.
