Speaker Summary
Guest Speaker – Dael Summerhays -Sunnex was introduced by our own applied politician, who eventually regressed back to first principles before allowing Dael the floor.
Dael was sponsored by the club to attend the 2017 Rotary Science and Technology Forum held in January. Fearful of two weeks of nerdiness, she was surprised to find she revelled in breaking the edge of science with her new found intellectual friends. The academic programme included lectures from Nanogirl (Michelle Dickinson) and Ethics Guru (John Buckeridge) together with industry visits to a synthetic food farm, and to a virtual reality devoid of any good science jokes. An artificial heart that actually works (provided you don’t lose the battery) was one of the highlights. The social aspect of the forum was where nerdiness was tested to the fullest, in the white-hot arena of competitive volleyball for the cerebrally enhanced.
Sergeant Session
A premature ending to the meeting saw the possibility of a 211/2 minute Sgt Session looming as a real and threatening menace. Members were spared this scenario as the comic genius eventually ran out of material. Based around absurd quiz question answers from the 80s BBC, the best by some distance was:-
Q: Who was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas in 1963?
A: JR

This ones not bad either:
