Mug collection next week. Bring your mug to empty out, or just some $$$ that would have been in it.
Collections:
30/9/17 – Dementia collection. Still some places to fill.
Blind Foundation 6/10/17
Blood pressure Campaign also 6/10/17. Volunteers to assist on the day for 2 hours
Treasured Art: We will shortly be approaching local businesses for sponsorship for next year’s Treasured Art event. Please advise Pat Taylor on patandbernienz@gmail.co.nz of any contacts you may have within the business community who you feel may be worth approaching to sponsor this event. Remember that all proceeds will be directed to Kiwi Can so we are looking for businesses that have a community conscience.   Pat hopes to be inundated with suggestions and contact details.

Update on Vinna Sila
Some great news.
Vinna is now at home and on the mend after her 2nd operation.
She and her mother will spend 10 days in Ronald McDonald House at the end of the month to give her Host Family a break.
When she is fully recovered we will get Vinna and her Mum to speak to the Club.
Alzheimer Update
Julie Sargisson – Manager Alzheimer’s Tauranga , thanked the club for our support being a commitment of $10,000 pa over the next three years.
Some of the symptoms of Dementia are Memory loss, communication and language, reasoning and judgement, visual perception and ability to pay attention. (As Andy Cameron noted, most men’s partners would suggest we all poses these symptoms !)
The reason Dementia is such a big problem is in 2016, 62,000 suffered from Dementia. This is expected to grow to 170,000 by 2050. Also the cost of care has risen 75% since 2011.
Volunteers are playing a huge part in providing assistance  with Governance, Administration, fund raising, walking groups etc.
Dean Forsyth – A volunteer talked about his help via supporting walking groups and offering support for male sufferers. A really worthwhile thing to be a part of.
As Julie stated – They may not know who you are or what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel.
Also fun fact from Stuart Pederson – Playing Bridge wards off Alzheimer’s. (not a vote catching statement,  but TGA Bridge club believe this to be true).

ShelterBox
Our very own Stephen Dorrington – in less than  normal controversial terms - gave a report on shelter box. 135,000 have been deployed world wide. Our donation of boxes can be tracked by the click of an I Phone, (by someone under 20 ). Each box costs $1,500 and our club sponsors 4-6 boxes a year.
Club person profile
Monique Edlinger is a born and bred Bay woman having been born in Te Puke and lived in the Bay all her life.
She is living life to the fullest and enjoying her 1 grand child, and excited another  1 on the way. She owns the Kitchen Studio in Tauranga, and just to spice things up recently brought the Hamilton business as well.
One of her passions is sailing and she has just brought a ‘”caravan on the water””, with a 95 year old yacht. An inspirational person in her life was her elderly aunty, who was nearly blind, but learnt how to use emails at the age of 80.  Alas she has passed away so can’t help Stephen Dorrington track our shelter boxes.
Sergeant Session
Pat Taylor ran his normal whimsical sergeants session suggesting
Dave Woodhouse aka the club drug dealer
Wayne Shadbolt charging towards retirement
Monique – keeping an empty bottle of milk in the fridge for those guests that like black coffee
Rhonda talked last week about making your bed first thing in the morning, but use normal sheets not balance sheets
And of course we couldn’t get away with Pat admitting he had forgotten his Alzheimer’s joke .

Jane Nees brought the box and gave a polite and professional retort to a previous speakers comments re the Regional Council. Well done Jane and we appreciate your stewardship of significant investment in the Bay ie $15m towards the new university, $5m for the marine precinct, millions cleaning up the harbour,  and so much more. Thank You.
Parting thoughts from Chris Rapson
George Washington is the only president who didn’t blame the previous administration for his troubles.
I offer my opponents a bargain, if they stop telling lies about us, I will stop telling the truth about them.
Winston Churchill once said – the best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
And finally, In America anyone can become president. That’s the problem.

No Toast master - Doctor Neil, to lead the National anthem, but we got off to a better start than the All Blacks on Saturday night and brought it home in harmonious fashion.
