Committee Meetings
International committee: Glenys Parton updated the international committee that Bailey, our contact for the Vanuatu book project has gone missing so speaking to local RSE workers to find another contact to facilitate book distribution to Vanuatu schools on the outer islands. A number of pallets of books are in storage inside an orchard shed in the Kaimais ready to go.
Discussed that recent request to remove inappropriate books before collection made the sorting and marking of books before palletising ready for transport much easier.
Discuss the option of boxing books in NZ so easiest for them to be distributed in Vanuatu, but also mindful not to create any additional work of sorting books on the Vanuatu end.
Raffle: winner was John Carlson
Sergeant at Arms –
Doug rounded out the meeting with an anecdote about the weight of a glass. It is not the weight of the glass that
influences its heaviness, it is how long you have to hold it.
If you can let go of your burdens each evening you will well lighter for it.
Doug also gave us some parting thoughts such as:
“Always read stuff that looks good if you drop dead in the middle of it”
“If you lend someone $20 and never see them again, it is probably money well spent”
