                                              Today in History   1987

Cabin crew foiled the attempted hijacking of an Air New Zealand Boeing 747 at Nadi airport, Fiji, by striking the hijacker on the head with a whisky bottle.

Flight TE24 from Tokyo to Auckland made a refuelling stop in Nadi. Ahmjed Ali, a Fiji Indian who worked for Air Terminal Services, walked onto the flight deck and told the captain that he was carrying dynamite.

Ali wanted to escape from Fiji, where the elected government of Prime Minister Timoci Bavadra had been overthrown by a military coup d’état five days earlier.

All 105 passengers and 21 cabin crew disembarked while the drama unfolded in the cockpit. For six hours, Ali talked to relatives in the Nadi control tower and Air New Zealand negotiators in Auckland.

Visitors:   Brad Dixon (Guest Speaker)

Welcome – President Lynda Burch kicks things off……

Apologies: For catering purposes, please get your apologies in by Wednesday!

Collection: Alzheimer’s this Friday – liaise with Neil if you are on the list. Probably a few spots left for any wannabes too.

Change Over – Please advise/confirm your enthusiasm to Michelle.  8th July 18:30 Trinity Wharf.

Treasured Art – thanks to Ingham Mora for being our Key Sponsor! Auction night was Friday (hopefully survived the Tsunami threat!). Thanks to all involved.

Member Welfare: It was reported that Ian Burns is recovering at home from his surgery whilst Kevin Atkinson has apparently contracted leptospirosis from hunting. We wish them both well and quick recoveries.

Guest Speakers:  Brad Dixon is a physio, coach, counsellor, writer and general over achiever. Brad is enthusiastic about being a Holistic Human, and is focused on “wellness”.
Prompted by his father requiring a quadruple bypass at the age of 58, he started reading about wellness. His research has led him to identify 10 Habits for Wellness, some of which at first glance seemed a little unpleasant.
Chilling out has a slightly different connotation in Brad’s book, and fasting seemed a long way off for some, as we tucked into our bacon and eggy-weg. Plant based food, full body strength, tissue creep and cardiovascular fitness, are aspirational goals. Sleeping with purpose and joy won a few pundits though. No wetsuit Wednesday – a swim around Moturiki in one’s speedos in the depth of winter will no doubt prove a winning combination.
It’s all in his new book: “Chill” and on the website https://www.everfit.co.nz/. The Holistic Human  - enhancing habits for expansive wellness – thriving humans on a healthy planet is the byline.

Les was the thanker, who claimed to have ticked off 7/10 healthy habits. As a result, he says he has worn out 6 hips and 2 knees by virtue of inner core strength and flexing capabilities. That man has muscles in places other people don’t have places.

Raffle:  – Neil Matson.

Sergeant Session: Sergeant Simon shared his fascination with language and whisky, without the “e”.
He also wondered where the gruntled workers worked and where the gusted lived. Were they shivelled on clement days? No. They were aspirated, gormed and pulsive it would seem.

Simon also displayed a fourth formers enthusiasm for demonstrating the ‘double s” and making swear words appear on the screen. Some were shocked. The butcher, the baxter, the candidate maker all ended with a cry of Zimber! Good effort.
