A fairly quiet meeting this week. El Presidente, Ursulla, was of course away, following the death of her mother. Committee meetings were the order of the day. Some were louder than others.
Eric did his usual expert, steadfast, job as stand in MC
Announcements;
Mary O’Sullivan advised that she had arranged to send flowers to Ursulla.
Breakfast at the Crystal Palace, 27 October. 6.45-8 am. Guest Speaker: Vincent O’Malley.  Tickets from Mary O’Sullivan, mary.osullivan@eves.co.nz, or Sally Morrison: sally.morrison@xtra.co.nz. To make decent money for Cystic Fibrosis, we have to sell 200 odd tickets. So, invite your friends, business colleagues & clients.
Cost for guests: $45 a head. Pay to the trust account:, If paying by cheque, Warwick made a heartfelt plea to make the piece of paper out to his good friend, Mr Charles Ash.

Friday Fives are next week, 29th September, but Ron just wanted to get a plug in early. Also he has invited a team from Te Papa Rotary club, so a good attendance would be desirable.

Collections: Alzheimer’s next Saturday, 30 September. Only about 1 space to fill.  Then, there are more vacancies for the Blind Foundation Collection on Friday 6th October

Christa from Life for More is Graduating Friday 6th  - Contact Wayne in you are wanting to attend.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner 2017 – Don’t miss out!  --  Dates:  4th and 11th November 2017
• This is a fantastic opportunity for Club members to have fun and get to know each other better, particularly for newer members
• Details of who’s hosting whom remain top secret until late afternoon on the day of the event!
• Pot luck format: everyone brings a plate – starter, salad/veges or dessert, as allocated by the organiser
• Host prepares main course   • BYO wine
• This is a Shelter Box fundraiser. We’re aiming to buy one at a cost of $1500.
In the past every participant, host or guest, has paid $30 to the host on the evening of the dinner.
• THIS TIME, the AMOUNT DONATED will be a matter of choice with everyone placing his/her offering in an envelope with their name on it. Again, the hosts will collect these.
• If you’d like to be involved either as host or guest please, phone, text or email  Michele Beaton michele@learningjourneys.co.nz   or 021 2233631 or Pat Taylor patandbernienz@gmail.com or 027 34 77657

RLI (I had to google this one to find out what it is): for you equally ignorant people out there it is:, to quote: “Rotary Leadership Institute, A weekend of learning about Rotary.. Organised by our very own Roberta. This Rotary year, in Napier, now 20 days away, or in Rotorua in March. Contact her for details.

Rotary International Student Exchange; we have a request to host a student. The only problem is a shortage of hosts. If you are even vaguely interested in hosting, please contact David Robinson PDQ.

Our good doctor, Neil, outed himself on returning from his operation. The chocolate given to him by the club was very healthy, and a great aid to recovery.
Sergeant Session
Sergeant:  was Max Mason. He had carried out extensive research, and compared member’s birthdays with some well known characters.
Some of the shared birthdays:
Warwick de Vere  and Donald Trump. What are the club’s funds going to be spent on?.
Paul Belcaster & Richard Nixon. Does he tape all our conversations?.
Monique Edlinger and Maria Sharapova, or Adolf Hitler. Take your choice.
Stuart Pedersen and Queen Victoria. A harbinger for the election?.
Max then revealed that it was his own birthday, but we were so shell shocked, we failed to sing Happy Birthday for him. So: Happy Birthday, Max.
The parting thought came from Mark Whitworth: “Start by doing what is necessary. Then do what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible”. Attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi.
