Visitors:  Harry Oram – guest of Rosalie.
President Elect Chris Dever was under starter's orders…….he has been asked to fill in for an indeterminate period of time..…

Welcome to 2021, after a very strange 2020. Even so, the club accomplished a lot of stuff. Mastering Zoom was listed amongst the more notable milestones.

Birthdays etc – Many and varied over the Christmas period. This included those who failed to log their personal details – the system defaulting to anniversaries and birthdays listed as 1 Jan XXXX.
A special greeting to those of us born in the XXXX year.

Others of note - Bernie Taylor’s birthday today, (somewhat of a surprise for Pat apparently), and a birthday with a big fat zero on the end for Buddy Mikaere.
Wendy Showan received a mention, with an unparalleled feat of Rotary longevity.

FIRST FUNDRAISER OF THE (CALENDAR) YEAR
- and a first for the Club
Another Birthday - Burns Night – Next Saturday Night - the celebration of Robbie Burns’ birthday. An evening of festivities - Sat 23rd Jan at the Tauranga Club. Only a few tickets left – get in quick. $75pp you can try out a dram or two and sample a Haggis supper.
Email: simon@learningjourneys.co.nz  to grab the last spots.

NOW - AS IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, 2021 MARKS THE 5th PRESENTATION OF 'KINDEST POSSIBLE WISH', OUR BIENNIAL TUTORED WHISKY TASTING.
Those who have attended previously will now how popular this event has become, the last one in 2019 selling out 6 weeks before the event.
This is a very early heads up for 11 AUGUST with Club members getting priority reservations. 75 tickets @ $75 a head, unchanged since the inception. Much more info later . Contact Dave at woodiesnz@xtra.co.nz to learn more

Mount Festival of Multisport– Marshals required for this event - 23rd Jan. Contact Steve Read if you can help  steve@yrw.co.nz

Rotary Youth Driving Awareness - the club was presented with a plaque celebrating our involvement and financial contribution to this initiative.

ROTARY CLUB of Katikati's 50th Anniversary Lunch on the 21st Feb, ($15 each). Includes beverage on arrival and displays celebrating each decade. Contact Chris Dever if you are keen. Ron Fyfe tells us these events are worth a look.

Kids Beach Day – The Merivale Community Centre is taking a muster of youngsters to the beach on Tuesday 19th (9:30 to 2:30). There is a promise of ice cream, chips and pizza if you are keen to tag along. Contact Paul Belcaster Email: paulbelcaster@gmail.com

Guest Speaker – As there was no guest speaker this morning, we were invited to see which one of us could tell the biggest lies…………… A fair degree of chat did ensue.

The meeting reconvened after a few whoppers had been landed…………

Raffle – Chris Rapson – at last he says!

SITUATIONS VACANT
One of the many vital roles within the Club is that of Editor and we have come to the stage where we need two new volunteers.
Briefly, it involves taking notes of proceedings of a meeting and sending them to me as soon as possible after the meeting. Hardly an arduous task and it would be approx. every 5 weeks. Put your own style on the presentation - have a look back over previous bulletins to see what I mean. I do all the collating and distribution. Have a chat to Bill C, Stephen, Neville or me to see how easy (yet vital) it is.
Thanks in advance
Dave W

Sergeant – Apparently there was room for a few more lies. Graham Cornes maintained he met Tom Hanks in the flesh, then witnessed the bombing of Hiroshima. A likely story that was left to run far too long for some.

And finally: Scientists say the universe (AKA USA) is made up of Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. They forgot to mention Morons.
