Welcome–from President Michele welcomed members and guests to the club and announced that there would be an auction at the end of Buddy’s last book for Pink Shirt Day. Michelle also gave a stirring farewell to our very own Mr Matson and all he has done for the Club over the years. Dr is off to new adventures in his retirement in Christchurch.

 

Dave MacDonald started by asking the club members who owned a Dyson? Believe it or not, the Dyson founder is making moves to improve the environment by buying a large-scale farm in the United Kingdom to show that technology and sustainability can combined to make a better environment. Dave showed a short video on Mr. Dyson and his environmental project. They have bought a 3,600-ha farm with regenerative farming practices, hedge rows, stone walls and so forth. From the byproduct of the crop farming, they are able to break this down to use as biomass to generate enough electricity for 14,000 homes. This power is used for a 14-acre strawberry greenhouse. He also showed how Dyson used technology to improve efficiency on farm.

 

 

Ross Mosley introduced Corey to the club. Corey Sweeney is the head coach to the New Zealand woman's sevens team. Cory started by saying his wife works for Dean at Hobec. There is also has a historical link with the club having worked with our esteemed Dr Neil Matson through Tauranga Sports. Corey prior to being was a coach was a teacher.

 

Corey and the New Zealand sevens team are looking forward to the finals of their championship and the upcoming Olympics. He has been the head coach for the last three years and in that time has transformed the way that they coach the athletes.

 

His why? the aspiration of learning, wanting to be the greatest, high expectations.

As for coaching of female sports teams, you need to understand the heart in the soul of your athletes. If you embrace this, you will get the most out of your team. His focus is to give the team the ability to be empowered and feel free to be able to speak up. His last point was around embracing team members culture, for which he showed some of his Samoan athletes showing their

culture to the rest of the team.

Alzheimer's collection day announced for next weekend, request for volunteers to be circulated around the club – 24^th May.

 

Heart Foundation - Shiv is walking 200 kilometres to raise funds for the Heart Foundation. Please give if you are able to.

Sergeant at Arms – Rhonda Wisbey

Rhonda gave an update on the last seven weeks since she  retired and the worldly pieces of advice as to how best enjoy your retirement. She noted that there is much more to people than work, as we embrace life by being either a good friend neighbour, golfer or whatever your passions might be.
