Guest Speaker:
Emma is a Health Movement Coach and is involved in active aging, as opposed to most in the room, who indulge in sedentary aging. Dealing with people who have Parkinson’s is her speciality, focussing on being well and healthy, retaining muscle awareness, mental mass and avoiding lycra and grunting at all costs.
Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition, and once you have been diagnosed, it’s too late. You have already had it for 2-5 years, so bad luck. Bugger! There is no cure, but it is possible to live a good life around the condition. 1/500 get it, & 1/20 of those get it young (so even our members should be vigilant.)
We then did a STOP exercise, which necessitated members getting out of their comfort zones, STOP! and out of their chairs too, STOP! Many in the room reminisced about sending telegrams in the olden days, STOP!
“All you need for above average results, is average results for an above average time.” Emma gazumps the parting thought. STOP!

Viv Dykes said there are flyer for members to complete to see if they can assist with either making Christmas cakes or Christmas crafts etc. So members could please put their names down.

Sponsors are lining up nicely with Paul Adams from Carrus is on board with his preferred charity being Waipuna hospice. The date of the event is the 27th of October. So Mary asked club members to think about friends and selling tickets now.
Rotary Volunteer Army - Michelle Beaton
Discussed the rotary volunteer army in for members to consider signing up with a commitment of a couple times a year over the next two years.
Guess who is coming to dinner
Dates will be from September the 16th through to the 23rd. This is a lot of fun and fellowship for members with donations going towards Shelter-box

Membership - We than had a bit of spare time so huddled in groups to solve the world’s problems and attempt to get more member’s at the same time. Glenn’s solution consumed most of the remaining time, something about group think, algorithms and avoiding personal responsibility. Other ideas centred around an alumnus for RYLER, not paying your subs, or not doing your make-up. Satellite Clubs are the answer in Auckland, but no one seemed to know what that meant.
Sgt Simon – This man can do everything. Carefully avoiding the “f” word this time round, he moved onto something more confronting – Statistics.
"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is a phrase describing the persuasive power of statistics to bolster weak arguments, of which Simon has some experience (according to our President). Douglas Adams, of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy fame cited that there is a minimal chance of winning lotto (1/38000000) and an infinitesimal chance of encountering intelligent life either here or in some far-flung galaxy. Who would have thunk it.
