Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner 2020 – Another round of this perennial favourite – set for 22nd and 29th August. This is a fantastic opportunity for Club members to have fun and get to know each other better.
Details: Be a Host, a Guest or Both! Format is Pot Luck, everyone brings a plate – starter, salad/veges or dessert, as allocated by the organiser. Host prepares main course. BYO wine. Details of who’s hosting whom remain top secret until late afternoon on the day of the event!
This is a Shelter Box fundraiser. We’re aiming to buy one at a cost of $1500. In the past every participant, host or guest, has paid $30 to the host on the evening of the dinner.
THIS TIME, the AMOUNT DONATED will be a matter of choice with everyone placing his/her offering in an envelope with their name on it. Again, the hosts will collect these.
If you’d like to be involved, get your name on the list, next meeting or, phone, text or email michele@learningjourneys.co.nz 021 2233631
Rotary Environmental Sustainability. Michele is also keen to start an environmental initiative of some sort. First step is a chat over coffee, in recyclable cups no doubt. Contact Michele if you are keen to be involved.
Movie Night – has been deferred. Even though Military Wives is a UK production, we can’t see it until it has been released in the States, and they can’t see it because of some pesky flu or another.
Ron Fyfe is a DG and, after the restructure is in charge of 2 Clusters of his own – Areas 6 and 7. He advises there is a District Board Meeting in Rotorua in 2 weeks time, where he can raise any issues members might have.
Committees for this year are about to be cast in stone. Please let Warwick know asap if you wish to apply for a transfer.
This Is Us – The first Multi-Cultural Workshop is to be held this Sunday with more than 30 booked in.
Guest Speaker - Nicky Wilson took up a position as a Teacher’s Aide at Pillans Point School in February this year. In response to some fairly challenging circumstances she has developed a versatile kit for students, to be used in conjunction with the Hauora Programme.
The Hauora Programme is based on a Māori philosophy of health and well-being and includes four dimensions.
• Taha Tinana (Physical Well-being - health),
• Taha Hinengaro (Mental and Emotional well-being - self-confidence),
• Taha Whanau (Social Well-being - self-esteem) and
• Taha Wairua (Spiritual well-being - personal beliefs)
The Whare Tapa Wha model represents the dimensions as the four walls of a , each wall representing a different dimension. All four dimensions are necessary for strength and stability.
Taha Whanau and belonging at school is a big thing according to Nicky, with self esteem and a sense of belonging key elements – demonstrated in a couple of videos
The Power of Yet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6CnrFvY94E
The Reflection in Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9OOXCu5XMg
Nicky’s kit includes a model tech Whare, a kete (fill my bag with knowledge cards) , some whisp pebbles and a monopoly board which the children make themselves. Kits cost $75 per student. She is seeking a start with 25 Trial kits for $1875

Sergeant –Warren Scobie entertained us with a suite of recent learnings, mainly gleaned from grandchildren during the school holidays.
They included:
• Moving the goat house is best accomplished without the goat in residence.
• All popular school holiday activities require a minimum of 3 hours queue time
• Even A.I. devices don’t want complicated relationships
• Card Games with children often have fluid rules, so stay awake!
Sage advice…good stuff.
And finally: Just read that 4,153,237 people got married last year. Don’t want to cause any trouble but shouldn't that be an even number?
