Chris welcomed Ross Pinkham - District Governor and our guest speaker to the club.
Chris pointed out there were only 38 more shopping days and 12 more Rotary meetings until
Christmas so get excited Santa’s on his (her) way!
And another gem from the President, it is 54 years since the introduction of 10 o’clock closing in New Zealand. How many of you can remember the 6 o’clock swell, not me.
Monday 11 October 2021 is world polio day, only two cases remain which proves vaccination works.
Birthday & Anniversaries – Les Geraghty and wife Tris have their wedding anniversary on 13 October, Les has also been a member of the club for 4 years on 13 October, Rhonda Wisbey, 9 years on 12th October and Dave McConnochie 13 years on the 10th of October.
Guest Speaker
Ross Pinkham - District Governor
Ex police office and now district governor Ross Pinkham has been touring all Rotary clubs however due to Covid he has done virtual visits to 18 clubs by Zoom.
Although he missed the turnoff and ended up going over the harbour bridge Ross made in back to our HQ and was able to present in person.
Ross stressed the importance of having good relationships with the local council and members of parliament.
An over view of the district structure and advised we have has a gain of 19 new member across the district.
$78 of your subscription goes to toward the District and is used for training, insurances, subsidising Rotary Conference and running the websites and administration.
Ross spoke about increasing our membership and reminded us of the theme from International World President Shekhar Mehta “ Each one Bring One”, I was sitting next to Greg Brownless who thought he said “ Bring One Get One Free” – I correct him!
A good bit of advice from Ross was to go back to previously completed and see if they need updating or maintenance.
A short video promoting the 2022 Rotary District Conference to be held 20 – 22 May 2022 was screened by Ross.

Wayne Shadbolt advised David Woodhouse is back in hospital and would welcome visitors but please txt first only two visitors per day ( Hospital Covid Rules ).
Shiv Thammalla said the Luxury Homes project had to be postponed, Oliver Road were the principal sponsors however they were unable to find enough houses to stage the event. Another sponsor in now being sort.
Michelle Beaton wants all those who have children or grandchildren and are keen to help out the Students for the Environment clean-up I’Anson Reserve to turn up this Sunday. Bring gloves outdoor gear and morning tea will be provided.
Les Geraghty is arranging a movie night of the new James Bond film “Time to Die” date to be announced.
Sergeant Session: Steve Dorrington
Challenging questions were proposed by our sergeant Steve Dorrington as to the number in Tim Tams are in a packet and is the packaging recyclable.
Well as it turns out the packet can be recycled by to the store were you purchased it..
Steve is about to take up a new role as Decision and Support Analysts at the Tauranga Hospital. Steve explained it came as a shock to him to discover he would have to work and be required to turn up at regular hours. Despite having an aversion to blood and all things sharp he has accepted the job.
I strongly suggest all member up their personal health cover and book into Grace Hospital!
