Welcome From President Lynda Burch.
Elvis – awesome moves at the movies. $300 raised for New Generations. Thanks to Henry for organising.
Glenys Parton – The club passes on its condolences to Glenys whose mother died recently.
Committee Meetings this Week – Yay some say!
Community Service – Shiv Thammalla - current initiatives on the go - Luxury Homes Tour – looking at the idea of partnering this with the Garden and Arts festival – Pat and Kathy are the experts apparently and are scoping the concept. The future of street appeals has been raised as an issue, with fewer people carrying cash these days. Also looking at raising the profile of Rotary with a Saturday morning event, full of flags, gazebos and a pinch of Rotary Regionalisation to boot.
Membership and Club Service Rhonda Wisby – With a gleam in her eye, Rhonda reports that there is a high level of support for a Gin Night that might rival the Kindest Wish thingy. Rotary Docs has revealed itself to link to a black hole and more Bulletin Editors and Tech set up folks are required. Step right up!
International - Les Geraghty reports that 50% of the International Committee are overseas. Vanuatu has been the recipient of our Threads across the Pacific, school uniforms and clothing for local Vanuatu workers who would no doubt been feeling the cold. Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner is threatening a couple of comebacks and the ROMAC quilt will be finding it’s new home shortly. Ross Brown promises to be back for his Auction set for 9th September - 28 items will go under the hammer. Phil Mangoes is also threatening to host us at Phil’s Bar with a bus organised for those who are inclined to over-indulge.
Environment – John Carlson with an update on the Green-team. First point on the agenda was that Michelle will be back in two week’s time. The second point was that she had rung him that very morning to ensure all agenda items were in order. Other points of note were the function and location of the drain sock (working, and over there),
Students for the Environment and their enthusiasm for chocolate biscuits and the
K Valley bait lines and the rodent hoof prints (for a RAT test some wag suggested.)
New Generations – Indeever Duhan – International Student Exchanges are looking to kick off again in June 23 with applications in Feb. RYPENs is down for March (Need to get the lowdown from David R) RYLA is developing a Social Media strategy and Glenn said something noteworthy about Outward bound which I forgot to note.
Sergeant Session: Chris Dever, told us about the sad demise of boozy elections. The tradition of politicians buying voters a drink was banned by a reform in 1858 which outlawed bribery, undue influence and polling stations in pubs.
Clearly a grim turn for the democratic process.
