Birthdays & Anniversaries –
Nil
Chris proposed that we move directly into Club Assembly:
Chris addressed his input so far this year and tried to change the profile to recruit new life in the club with new blood and some younger members so we didn't end up as a older aged club. With new members in the last few months this is helped to renew life to Sunrise with a new generation.
Covid has been a problem and the impact to the club activities has been great. We still managed to be as active as possible due to the circumstances.
Director New Generation - Andy Cameron
Andy announced young people and new generation has been stopped due to covid. The committees main roll at the moment is in a support roll. For example the Graeme Dingle Foundation and its a bit of wait and see what happens next.
Director Community Service - Shiv Thammalla
The report is similar to the Committee meeting report.
Shiv updated us on their ‘Luxury Home 2 Project’, code named ‘Unicorn 2’ is to still go ahead although postponed till 2023.
There was also a meeting with Mark Anderson from the Garden and Arts Festival re fundraising event, and Linda is going to draft up a proposal for them to consider.
Movie night for the Rheumatic Heart Disease fundraiser has unfortunately been cancelled.
The committee is also exploring a ‘Rotary Street Appeal’ and Pat is writing to the District Governor to further this appeal.
Director Membership and Club Services -Dean Thompson
Covid has had an impact regarding meetings face to face but has a good line up of speakers, although some speakers have deferred due to Zoom format.
Dean and Henry has met with representative from the Tauranga club and under initiative from Pat our assistant District Governor, to host a function to introduce rotary to aspiring new members. Tagged for the last Sunday in May. Possibility representing the 5 clubs. The format was then given. To make it a expo format.
Director International Service - Lynda Burch
Lynda started by saying they have been able to carry on through Covid as its impact has been small. The Kiwifruit container that is being shipped to Vanuatu. Lynda put a call-out for
The Vanuatu School Library program are pleased to advise their books have arrived, and they are talking about also sending some books to Tonga.
Things are still trucking along for the committee.
Glenis is organizing the Romac raffle, and has meet with Dean Thompson.
Finally the committee plans to purchase a new Shelter Box by the end of the year. The Club will also organize a demonstration of what is in a Shelter Box.
Director Public Image and Events - Henry Kayser
Nothing much happening at the moment due to Covid. Movie nights are postponed to later dates which are yet to be organised. The Committee is on standby to till to are fully active again.
Director Environment Committee - Michele Beaton/Nathan
Chris thanked Michele and the committee for a active year to date.
The Sea Socks have really been doing their work with the Cyclone, and Nathan encouraged members to have a look after a heavy rain event. The committee are looking to put up some awesome signage with the Tauranga City Council to inform the Public on how much plastics makes its ways into our waterways.
K-Valley Bait lines- 2st cycle to be actioned next month. - 1st one very successful, with plenty of bait taken and hopefully a lot less rodents. Thanks to all those that are helping rebait the lines.
Lynda Birch as incoming President.
Normally all the new concepts and changes are done at changeover but after discussion with the board decided to announce a couple concepts at Club assembly.
With the success of the environmental committee been large, it has spread thin across some of the other committees. In the past we took out from club services the event team and made it a separate committee but with changes we are going to combine the two committees again to make one. With Covid over the last couple year and changes happening we will get back to some normality. The committees structure will be adjusted as needed. Members can contribute as best they can, when we can. We don't expect everyone to be 100% committed all the time, only as be you can.
A big thank you to all the people who have worked tirelessly over this year and looking forward to leading and working with every body and the club in the new Rotary year.
Chris thanked everyone for their comments and reports.
He asked on behalf of the board if any members is having trouble connecting through zoom
and offered from club members could assist and help out with set up and training if required.
I you cannot attend the meeting please provide an apology which help out with numbers.
Discussion about zoom still provides the connection with members even though its by screen.
Duties reminders if you are unable to carry out your duty please organise someone to take your place. For LOA please make sure the Board and Ray are notified or the President with your dates.
We then moved out of Club Assembly to rest of the meeting.
Notices:
Bobs BBQ
Just a heads up that I have decided to cancel Bobs BBQ in the organised form as I think that under these circumstances people are reluctant to commit. Fresh Home Baking for Tauranga & Whakatane Hospital Staff:
With our team at Rise Up Tauranga, we are encouraging the BOP community to provide seven weeks of fresh home baking for Whakatane and Tauranga hospital staff from February 28 to April 13 while we go through Phase 3 of the Omicron outbreak and to help support our frontline health services as they come under further pressure with hundreds of people testing positive for Covid-19. It would be wonderful if Rotary club members could spread the word to other Rotary clubs in the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty, as well as to their own business networks, and friends and family.
Sergeant Session: Andy Cameron
Andy started off with congratulating the past Sergeant's with their excellent whimsical topics
recently Phil on his outside remote bar and play area. One thing was missing though the bar girls (photo shown).
Nathan on his happy place to go away and prospect for gold at his secret location. Andy showed what he also needed was a gold mining setup like he was involved with in Africa. Including a team hand digging and his own personal guards ( guns included ) named Lovelace, finishing with the final process of gold bars been poured at Martha mine in Waihi- 40klg each. A man of many talents and experiences.
