Glenys dazzled us with tales of her vintage furniture that's still standing strong after all these years, unlike today's flimsy MDF pieces. She's also hunting for a new knob or nob—any brave souls up for the challenge?

 

 

Clara captivated us with tales of her hometown, Gramado, Brazil, a charming town of 40,000 people. Nestled at an elevation of 850m, Gramado boasts stunning architecture and even gets a sprinkling of snow. Established in 1875, the town is rich in culture, famous for its Easter chocolate festival and festive Christmas celebrations. Clara also shared the story behind their colourful four-striped flag representing the region. She proudly wore her blazer adorned with so many badges it resembled a bulletproof vest!

 

Arshdeep, one of our newest members, arrived in New Zealand just before COVID hit. He is passionate about embracing the Kiwi culture and has fully immersed himself into a range of communities and activities. He's currently looking to start his own business and, rumour has it, he's quite the dancer—especially after a few drinks!

 

Tech treasure hunt:  Dan is on the lookout for old laptops or phones for his students. If you can help, please reach out to him directly.

 

Community support:  Shiv announced that our Club contributed $400 to the Alzheimers collection, which raised a total of $11,000 for the charity. Fantastic effort team!

 

Wine winner:  Mary snagged the Vino, but was it with number 45 or 54? Hmm, intriguing!

 

James had a slow start in his Sergeant role but quickly found his stride once he got the mic working. Much like a comeback in a rugby match, his second half was stellar. He shared a riveting story about the Battle of Jutland in 1916—a 36 hour clash that saw the loss of 250 ships and over 8,500 sailors, ending in a tragic draw.

James also paid tribute to John Bonham, who passed away at age 32 and is arguably the greatest drummer of our time, having been the heartbeat of Led Zeppelin.

To wrap it up, he recounted his 6-hour journey to Auckland many years ago, joking that maybe he should have taken the scenic route instead!

 

Ron forgot he was up for the parting thought, so Adrian stepped in with a gem: "It's been guaranteed that the more birthdays you have, the older you get." Just then, Ron, after waking up, chimed in with his own wisdom: "The older I get, the earlier it gets late."

 

 

 

Bill Holland  was made a New Zealand Order of Merit only two weeks after been make  a Honorary Life member of Sunrise
