Gail Page Guest Speaker Liz Davies is the GM of Social Link which is an umbrella support organisation for not for profit social sector organisations. It was established because of the need for effective collaboration between local decision makers and the social sector, as well as between social sector organisations themselves. Kathy Webb had been instrumental in establishing SocialLink. Much of their work was influenced by Min. of Social Development research showing children at risk of poor outcomes experienced two or more of the following four indicators: - having a finding of abuse or neglect by Child, Youth and Family (CYF) or having spent time in their care
- having spent more than three-quarters of their lifetime supported by benefits
- having a parent who has received a community or custodial sentence
- having a mother who has no formal qualifications
2736 children fitted this profile which is 14% of all 0-24 year olds in Tauranga. The national average is 13%. Key initiatives for SocialLink are: - Developing The Kollective (new social sector hub at the Historic Village)
- Mapping the social sector
- Collective impact eg bring groups together to address complex issues such as methamphetamine
- Closing The Gap event
- Training and networking events
Sargent session Marianne drew the guest speaker’s name which was an appropriate reward for an excellent presentation. A sports quiz then ensured where all members stood up and when they couldn’t answer a question sat down. It took eight rounds! Wayne's World in Words. “The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” ― William James Parting thought: Brett quoted John Wesley’s rule for Christian living: “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways that you can, In all the places you can, At all the times that you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”
