Update Speaker Lisa gave a brief overview of the club survey results.
Group Discussion - Six groups were formed to discuss two key points raised through the club survey results
The groups presented their discussion point results back to the general meeting on the following two discussion points:
- Create an action plan to pilot an adjusted Rotary experience over the three months in the first half of 2024, considering:
- Do you enjoy your Rotary experience?
- What would you change?
- How do the frequency and format of meetings suit you? What changes would you make and why?
- Create an action plan for a membership drive over three months in 2024, considering:
- What do you think would make our club more visible in the community?
- What do you think we should change to attract younger members?
Feedback:
Group 1:
Food is part of the glue.
Reducing number of meetings - for those who can’t get here regularly they may not be able to get here at all if number of meetings is reduced.
Group 2:
Environment is important but shouldn’t dominate sessions.
High calibre speakers - finding more high profile speakers
More promotion of projects we do in the community
Technology, club runner and website - are they fit for purpose. A calendar with events. Bring someone to an event rather than an admin meeting.
Cost - food is important. We wonder if it’s a barrier for new people joining.
Group 3:
Cutting down meetings to fortnightly is not a good idea.
Replace the last Friday of the month breakfast
Top class speakers
Would like to have some meetings off site
More working bee type activities
New members - provide a one page list of what we’re about and place it on the website. Have a designated mentor.
Have more social meetings
Replace the sergeant with a 5 minute talk from a club member introducing themselves
Group 4:
We need to decide on how big the club needs to be to provide enough people for projects
Target specific businesses.
Industry managers, corporate membership
Group 5:
High profile events eg treasured art, great K valley
Personal contacts
BNI concept
Dedicated membership team to invite people along to meetings and social events
New members - we used to take new members to club assembly, understanding what Rotary International
Target corporates
Need high profile speakers
National anthem - all of us enjoy the National Anthem. Singing is good for mental health.
Have club members going to Chamber of Commerce
New members - district governor, understanding
Training - new members are not trained eg to learn to welcome new people, how to be a mentor.
Enjoy club meetings. We need to get back to Tauranga Club, we miss food and sunrise:
Group 6:
We looked at fundamental questions - what is the value proposition? Networking. What is the difference between what we offer and other platforms offer? Face to face
How do we deliver this to members? Some joined for networking.
Cost v value - are we delivering the value? If not then reducing cost will not keep members
Target Age - 40 and above - have more time and finances
Target people - businesses
Ongoing media coverage, word of mouth. Let’s be more relevant, corporate sponsorship, use social media.
Training sessions for new members.
Membership - new membership need to be aware of what Rotary is, and attend a club / District assembly.

Notice One – Rotary Exchange: Can anyone please host our 16-year old Rotary Exchange student from Brazil for 3-4 weeks in January and late in the year? Glenn and Indeevar are hosting her during the middle of the year. She will be attending Otumoetai College. Also during the year, we would like to roster club members for social activities with her on weekends, taking her on outings. If you can help please contact Glenn Dougal on
