BULLETIN 25th March 2022

TODAY in History   1940

A charismatic ex-soldier, orator and writer, John A. Lee had been active in the New Zealand Labour Party since shortly after the First World War.

Following Labour’s landslide victory in 1935, Lee expected to be appointed to Cabinet, but Prime Minister Michael Joseph. Savage thought him too unconventional. Instead, Lee was made a parliamentary under-secretary with responsibility for Labour’s state housing scheme. The success of this landmark programme owed much to his enthusiasm and organisational ability.

Glen continued to days talk it came about as Rotary Sunrise has just gone cashless and we now have Zoom meetings. Asking should we start using Crypto?
Starting then with a CRYPTO / NFT NZ 101 stating he was not an expert, or suggesting any advice /encouragement for investing
Glen explained what is a Blockchain, What is a Bitcoin and How does Bitcoin work. What can you do with bitcoin . How much is a Bitcoin, how to buy Bitcoin using NZ Buying Options.
He then went on to talk about keeping your Crypto currency and forming a wallet to secure them. Paying Tax, Reporting Bitcoin and Privacy.

He advised about what you can do with Bitcoin -
  1. Launder money , buy drugs on the dark net, gamble on line with crypto casinos
  2. You can use it to pay for goods or services i.e. Mount fish & chips. Tesla , BookaBatch, Dixie Browns , Oyster & Chop, MyGold
  3. You can trade it either trading Bitcoin for flat currencies (AUD, US$ etc .) or other crypto currencies (ETH, XRP,etc )
  4. You can invest and hold (HODL) on to it. Some predict that Bitcoin’s value will continue to rise long-term. Or cash it out to your bank account.

Glen continued detailing about how many Cryptocurrencies there are and introduced us to slang used in Crypto.
When Lambo - when are we going to get rich
Bagholder's -   essentially is a very unfortunate soul
No coiner - people who don’t own any Bitcoin
BULLS -  a bull is any individual or institution that has a positive outlook
BEARS - any individual or institution that has a negative outlook
SHILL -  a person purposely promoting something for their own benefit
FUD – fear, uncertainty, and doubt
HODL –hold on to dear life (or hold your coins )
REKT  - to suffer losses from coins that have dropped in value
FOMO – you can use this in everyday life. However, if someone says FOMO in crypto related topics, they’re probably feeling an urgent need to get in on what everyone else is doing
Mooning /to the moon  - when a crpto currency is about to soar in both price and volume
WHALE  - an investor who owns 5% or more of any cryptocurrency coin
PUMP & DUMP - pump happens when a great ton of attention leads to a coins price increase dump happens when the coins price crashes after an associated spread of negative emotions

He then talked about important stuff you won’t read:-
*Keep your keys, seeds and passwords safe and back them up
*Seriously, back them up and test it. Use a password manager
*never give anyone your private key.
*Crypto allows you to be your own bank. Bu you provide all the security
*Only invest what you can afford to lose .Its volatile
*Do your own research and seek professional advice
*Don’t leave your crypto on an exchange for long periods of time
*Turn on 2-factor authentication for your email
*Do not re-use passwords unless you want to kiss your money goodbye
*Turn on 2-factor authentication for all crypto exchanges & Wallets
* Be safe, have fun, HODL and don’t get “rekt”

Rosalie:
Fresh Home Baking for Tauranga & Whakatane Hospital Staff:
With our team at Rise Up Tauranga, we are encouraging the BOP community to provide seven weeks of fresh home baking for Whakatane and Tauranga hospital staff from February 28 to April 13 while we go through Phase 3 of the Omicron outbreak and to help support our frontline health services as they come under further pressure with hundreds of people testing positive for Covid-19. It would be wonderful if Rotary club members could spread the word to other Rotary clubs in the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty, as well as to their own business networks, and friends and family.
