Guest Speaker – Our own Past/previous President - Lynda Burch. Computer Guru as introduced by Andrew Knowles.
Subject: A1, and Why all the hype? and will it affect You? (Full presentation to be emailed out)
Lynda has been working for 6 years for GHD Engineering group, a multinational including computer software engineering. developing, and helped improve the NZ Police crime reporting, mobile devices, and frontline apps.
AI (artificial intelligence )is machines that perform human tasks, and is Designed to support and assist, not compete.AI can learn and suggest how to improve.
Bill Gates notes that AI is one of the 4 big technology changes in his lifetime.
We have used AI for some years, with Lynda remembered when Massey University swapped from multiple software platforms to a linked Microsoft Office system
The appearance of Chat GP has brought AI into to focus, and lead to the anxiety of machine deep-- learning replacing jobs/workers.
Lynda then discussed A1 Software BOTs and their use in increasing business efficiency, accuracy and confidence in the data generated .Companies like her one can be Tier 1 close linked to Microsoft and see drop from 18 to 3 months to develop new software. A! can help build components, check for bugs, anticipate what business will need.
A1 is significant in the fields of Health ( e.g. vaccination , radiology ). Computer chip efficiency, and in computer security, to prevent Cyberattacks early on.
Chatbots have improved customer service and routine automating tasks for business. Example of how Microsoft TEAMS now summarises your meeting for you.
Chat GPT now being capped and superseded ( BING , Open A1 GPT5) However, we use in so many ways – e.g.- writing reports, translation, recipes from ingredients .
Obviously huge concerns have developed about who decides rules , regulating, Government or Sector , worries on Public Privacy and regular debate and international discussion continues.
Thanks:- from Andy Cameron, who is more worried by HS ( Human stupidity ) than AI.

had been at a 60
th School Reunion and remembered her favourite teacher teaching the 16x table. Having to learn by rote learning is less used currently. However, research suggests rote learning with appropriate rest breaks is good for overall learning
