Guest Speaker – Jacqui Ryan’s name was eventually revealed…..and she greeted us
with a pepeha that included at least two Taraweras. (Lake & mountain, or maybe river – take your pick). Jacqui came to tell us about the Tauranga Community Housing Trust (TCHT), a charitable trust that has been running for 20 years. TCHT aims at providing long term affordable rentals for people, as well as transitional housing for up to 40 households. Their portfolio consists or 120 owned and 112 leased properties across Tauranga, Te Puke and Whakatane.

acqui tells us that whilst housing issues are being addressed in the metropolitan areas on NZ, us in provinces are missing out. With Tauranga’s population growth and demand for housing, some people are in vulnerable situations. TCHT does it’s best to help out by offering safe and secure tenure as well as support through “pastoral care”, an initiative to help out around the place.
The Housing Equity Fund is a collaboration across BoP to deliver affordable housing. The idea is to make housing an attractive investment class, recycling and building houses for the next 100 years. Tebbs Lane in Gate Pa is an exemplar where 48 apartments are due for completion in 2025.

New member: Douglas Bell
We’re looking forward to welcoming Doug Bell, introduced by Adrian, as a new member of Tauranga Sunrise. Doug is keen to join the club because he enjoys mixing with like-minded people to serve the community.
He’s a retired expatriate consultant who returned to Tauranga in 2014. Though he grew up in Tauranga (attended high school here), he lived and worked internationally for 35 years (Middle East, Western Europe, Central Asia, North and Latin America). Doug has two daughters and one granddaughter.

Duty Roster - Bulletin Editor & Sergeant
Currently the role of Bulletin Editor is being carried by a small group of 3 members. This arrangement is unsatisfactory and unsustainable. It will be my intention to share this responsibility around and moving forward will be including other members on the roster but will give you the opportunity to opt out.
If you do not want to be included on the roster as Bulletin Editor, then please advise me before the end of next week (i.e. Friday 13 October)
