Visitors: Casey Hawes and Rod Large
Welcome From President Chris Dever. His last meeting as President as next week is change over and the following Friday Matariki. Punters would have been aware of Chris’s absence the last couple of weeks as well. A flat battery, then the dreaded Covid kept him housebound.
Birthdays & Anniversaries – According to Clubrunner- Sanjana, David R. and Wayne Shadbolt will all be blowing out the candles. Henry has been married for 17 years, Mike Batchelor, Wayne Shadbolt have been chained to the wheel for 24 years and Glenys Parton for 10.
It was noted that those who do not populate their details in Clubrunner, will forever remain unacknowledged. Good thing, some would say.
Rod Large Induction – Rod was finally inducted after a few false starts. He has
already been involved in Rotary for over 20 years and as a former Assistant Governor has probably forgotten more about Rotary than most in the room will ever know. Despite that he was reminded that “With this pin…” he is once again a Trustee of Rotary Ideals, and fresh with that mantra will be welcomed by Shiv into the Community Projects Committee.
Rod gave a quick bio: Joined the North Harbour Rotary Club in 2005, President 2010-11 and AG 2011-12. He then moved to the Gisborne Club, where is assumed the position of “Honourary JAFFA”. He is also an Honourary member in Canada too. (not sure if this attracts the title of H.JAFFA as well).
Breakfast Clubs have a good VIBE he reckons, with high energy levels. Welcome Rod, and good VIBES to you.
Barry Fredheim – has just returned from Campbell River (Canada) where he apparently indulged in and antiquated custom of “Make ups” with the locals.
Campbell River Rotary Club are a lunchtime club, but despite that, still get things done he claimed, with some gusto, if not vibe. He proudly displayed our pendant he was meant to present to them – not sure if that is the correct protocol with these things?
Barry then regaled us with his tales of the North American wild-life, Grizzly Bears, Fish, Crabs and Eagles all encountered, killed or both. It was hard to come back to work he lamented. No doubt.
Michelle Beaton - Planting Day K Valley 9 July. Not a huge number of trees, but there will be a BBQ and Dianne Paton will be attending. Dianne is in charge of many nature reserves around Tauranga.
Lynda Burch - Threads Across the Pacific. The container is on its way, apparently packed by the same people who needed our warm clothes. Two Boats and a sewing machine comprised the special cargo secreted away.
Members were asked to give some thought to possible Items to donate for September’s Auction. A date with Bob Sutton, and a bike ride with Warren have apparently proved contestable items in the past, so a world of possibilities awaits.
Dan Allen Gordon – Vouchers for Good booklets were distributed amongst members. An easy way to support the Graeme Dingle Foundation. Drop for Youth
(rebranded from Drop your Boss), is on again, and might not be such an easy way to support the foundation if you happen to be the dropee. Not for the feint hearted but a great way to raise funds
Buddy Mikaere Planting effort at the Te Ranga Historic Reserve (9:30-12:00 & 2:00 – 5:00 on 17
th & 18
th June. Covered shoes and a spade required – details from Buddy.
Clubrunner – Simon Beaton is the Clubrunner steward and asks that members ensure all details are up to date and in working order. Worst case scenario is GWCTD guests could arrive at your ex’s for dinner – not a pretty scenario. Could this happen to you? Contact Simon if you can’t login and he can reset your password. His details are available on ClubRunner he tells us.
“Try and make it work” he pleads…..

Sergeant Session: Les Geraghty, a pugilist of some note ran through the history of boxing for those who have never ventured near the ring. Steve Read rated a special mention for standing in as the chief welcomer at the Tauranga Club last week, not realizing there was a venue change for the bout. Top Effort.
After many and varied questions about the noble art, the sergeant session was eventually abolished because it was just too savage.

“They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, and an entire life to forget them.”
