Today in History 1987 Black Tuesday share-market crash Billions of dollars were wiped off the value of New Zealand shares in the weeks following 20 October, as the shockwaves of a sharp drop in New York’s Wall Street stockmarket rippled around the world.
The 1987 Hollywood blockbuster Wall Street is the archetypal portrayal of the financial wheeling and dealing – not to mention excess – of the 1980s. New Zealand may not have had anyone quite as ruthless as ‘corporate raider’ Gordon Gekko, but many New Zealanders thrived in these deregulated times. The National Business Review published its first New Zealand ‘rich list’ in 1986.

They had a discussion around the format of our Rotary meetings and came up with a few suggestions for considering changing, so that more attractive to new members. These included;

Crystal Palace - Target is 200 people, currently sales are up to 160 tickets sold.
Club members are able to offset their ticket price with their meal account.
Farmer Auto Village have donated 4 luxury cares which can be purchased to drive you around the event venues.
Street Appeal – as previously updated – Raised $642 for Alzheimer’s

Books across the Pacific – Beginning to organize the book collection around the Bay Schools
Already have 4 trailer loads in storage – to be stored down.
ROMAC updates – emails should be going out to all members.

K-Valley - Bait Lines to be done again Nov-Dec, new roster coming out soon.
K-Valley Great Cycle Race, April school holidays. Looking for helpers and to change the event up a bit.
Wayne Shadbolt was willing to lead the event with help from Rhonda
Western Bay Wildlife Trust – Big Thank you for the $800 raise by the premier movie night.
Listed several events that Rotarians could help out with, including planting trees up Summerhill to create a legacy.

Outward bound – thanked the board for approving to send Ben.
Rotary Exchange – we have an inbound student next year. Indeevar is hosting for 3 months, and we are looking for other hosts. Let Glen or Indeevar know if you are interested.
