A special welcome from President Ursula to our visiting Rotary dignitaries. And an equally appreciative mention of Antoon who advised all in the room of his birthday celebrations. He proved to be not so forthcoming at Friday Fives as it turned out.

Save a Life – Relaunch is set for 21st December with a stand operating at Countdown from 9- 4pm. Eight volunteers are sought (2 hour slots – these will be allocated on a first come first served basis so be in quick – Contact Dave Woodhouse).  Dave also announced the first export shipment with 1500 capsules bound for the UK.

Christmas Meeting – 15th December. Don’t forget to bring a truly awful gift for the Secret Santa. Max value $10 with a special prize for the worst present. Last year will take some eclipsing so put your thinking caps on.

Speakers – There is apparently a shortage of speakers next year - please advise Eric if you know of anyone worthy of a slot, lest he fall back on club members to fill in (some in particular).

Duties – Eric also made a heartfelt plea for members to read and digest the contents of the Duties Section within the Bulletin – if perchance your name might appear there! Apparently Pat Taylor has had to do a lot of filing in.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner – Michele Beaton thanked all those involved in this event – ~$1300 raised for ShelterBox. There was apparently one no-show on the night, at which some wag suggested Pat Taylor might have been able to fill in again – not sure if he managed it.
Guest Speaker – District Governor Leonie Tisch gave a run down of District 9930 (which surely deserves a more suitable Te Reo appellation). But maybe it’s all about numbers - 52 Clubs from Huntly to Waipuk – 12 separate areas with ADGs and 1600 members.
Leonie carried International President, Ian Riseley’s message of Rotary Making a Difference, and encouraged the Club to aspire for a Presidential Citation. Apparently, this is pretty easy, and all we really need to do is write down all the time we spend doing marvellous things for the community. We also need to plant a tree for each member and, gain 3 trees (hopefully of different varieties) by the end of the year, whilst having immense amounts of fun. Sounds easy, but a ban on the use of acronyms in Rotary might prove a little more challenging.

The Rotary Foundation is our Charity which we need to, (and do) support. International Polio Day, Days for Girls’ and be Proud to say “Rotary” rounded out the address.

There was then a shameful admission by the club - a show of hands from those who had never attended a District Conference (37 3/4 was the official count)

Save the Date 18-20th May 2018 Wairakei Resort, Taupo. Journeys that are Making a Difference

Sgt Session:
An Appeal for the Light. Surely not the first time Chris Rapson had done this but after 8 ½ minutes, that flashed by at 186 000 miles per second it was done and dusted. Star dusted some said.
District Governor Nominations for 2020-2021 Rotary Year are open. Details by clicking the link. Who do you know who would be a great DG? - last weeks back-up?
Parting Thought: Michele Beaton (possibly first delivered to husband Simon, circa 1980s)

“Choose your attitude.”
